World War Two Roll of Honour


As far as our records show, 595 Old Nottinghamians fought in the Second World War across the world in all theatres of the war.  Ninety-Nine lost their lives.  Here, we name those men and tell what we know of their lives and service.

Nottingham High School, in common with many other public schools with Officer Training Corps lost a significant number of Old Boys particularly on the Western Front. Tales of immense courage and bravery filtered through for those decorated and Mentioned in Despatches.  So far as can be ascertained,  the number of old boys and masters serving was 1,500.  Two of these, Captain Albert Ball and the Rev. T.B.Hardy, won the Victoria Cross.  There were 124 decorations, 29 others were honourably mentioned in despatches.  231 lost their lives.
