Pilot Instructor Sgt. Instructor John Richard Mason No. 34 Elementary Flying School. RAF (ON34-39) Killed on a training flight 24 November 1944 age 22. Buried Assiniboia (Mount Hope) Cemetery, Canada.
He was the son of JW Mason, a Lace Manufacturer, and his wife Ines, living in Sherwood. While at the School John was the OTC Drum Major and Captain of Cricket in 1939 before leaving in the Upper Fifth. " Mason has been the season's surprise packet and has the most promising style and temperament of any boy in the team" Nottinghamian. July 1937. The 1st XI of 1937 also contained E.Millington, GC Brown and IL Wilkinson, all WW2 Casualties.
