Pilot Officer Warren Herbert Cheale RAFVR (Staff 1944) Killed in a school ATC training accident 7 September 1944 age 44.
NOTTINGHAM CREMATORIUM.
Cheale had served as a Sgt Pilot in WW1 and survived a mid-air collision at over 2000 feet. He came to Nottingham soon after the start of the 2nd war to take charge of a hostel for refugee children in Burton Joyce and joined the High School Staff as form master for 3Red in January 1944. He soon became an instructor in the ATC and received a commission in July 44. The week before he died he had been on a training course for officers. He left a wife, son and daughter.
