Pilot Officer John Richard Drewry 114 Sqn. RAF. (ON 1920-26) Died 12 September 1940 age 30. Buried ROTHLEY CEMETERY. Son of RW Drewry, Department store manager, and Lucy Drewry. He was a member of the school OTC. Died in Welton, Lincolnshire in a motorcycle accident while on active duty. However, he had been involved in a crash landing at RAF Boscombe Down 19 days before on return from mine-laying mission off France, his final flight.

From the Nottinghamian 1940:
At school he was a member of the OTC and on leaving joined the staff of Messrs John Player and Sons, on which he served for 14 years. He joined the RAFVR in January 1939, and this year obtained a commission as Pilot Officer in the RAF. He has take part in raids over Germany and France.
