Flight Lt. JD Fletcher RAF
Flight Lt. John David Fletcher 97 Sqn.RAF (ON 31-36). Killed 23 June 1944 age 24. Buried Cambridge City Cemetery. Acting as an Rear gunner in a string of successful missions, Fletcher was flying on formation flying practice near RAF Wittering, when his plane collided with another Lancaster both crashing with a loss of all but one crew member. John Fletcher was the son of John Tabberer Fletcher, a Captain in the RA Reserve, and his wife Dorothy Fletcher. He was married to Joyce Loretta Fletcher. Fletcher was keenly interested in Natural History and left school in the 5th form to work in Poultry Farming.
