Squadron Leader PF Hickling RAF
Squadron Leader Peter Frank Hickling 218 Sqn. RAF. D.F.M. (ON 29-31). Killed 9 November 1942 age 28. Killed when his Stirling was shot down by flak over Germany returning from a bombing mission to Hamburg. All seven crew were buried at Hanover War Cemetery, Germany. At the time of his death he was 'A' Flight Commander of 218 Sqn. He was awarded a D.F.M in June 1941 for Gallantry and had taken part in many operational flights over Germany and Italy. A Lance-Corp. in the school OTC he was the son of Frank and Antoinette Hickling. After leaving school he followed his father into a career in Accountancy with Messrs. Stanley Blythen and Co.
