Description

The son of an ON, JEV Ley, a Company Director living at Cromwell Street, Nottingham.

From The Nottinghamian December 1944:
It may be said that he was a typical example of what an English schoolboy should be. In 1936 he joined the OTC and became an N.C.O. In sport he took a very active part and was a member of the First XI and 2nd XV. He was editor of the school magazine. Ley won the Lord Mayor's Prize for consistent industry in Schoolwork and the prize for most efficient Junior N.C.O. the year before he left. On leaving he presented a clock to show his appreciation, loyalty and gratitude to the School.
He joined the Royal Tank Regiment, and whenever home on leave always made a point of visiting his old school. Finally he passed through Sandhurst Military College and went to Normandy a few days after D-Day.
