Sgt. Pilot Earnest Millington RAFVR
Sgt. Pilot Earnest Millington No.21 OTU. RAFVR. (ON 29-37) Killed 9 March 1942 age 21. Buried at PINXTON (ST. HELEN) CHURCHYARD. Leaving RAF Edgehill for night practice of circuits and landings, the Wellington Millington was co-piloting crashed in the process of landing with all 5 crew killed. Son of E.Millington, Donington House, Victoria Road, Pinxton. Works Manager and his wife Gertrude, Ernest was admitted to the school in 1929 age 8 the oldest of 3 brothers attending the school. He remained until 1937 leaving to work at Pinxton Mine. He played in the 1st XI, was House Captain for Cooper's House and his house Cricket team. He played scrum-half for the 2nd Rugby. School prefect in 1937.(Photo Nottinghamian) "Millington has proved a distinct success as a first wicket batsman and should make runs next year". On leaving, his tutor notes “He had developed into a really good and reliable fellow”.
