Sgt.Pilot John Philip Mountney RAFVR. (ON 27-34) Killed 26 March 1941 age 24. RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL..
The Wellington bomber that Mountney was piloting was on a four hour cross country training exercise from RAF Hanwell when it flew into fog off Cricceth in Cardigan Bay ,Wales and crashed into the sea with no survivors. John Mountney's body was never found. He entered the school in 1927 aged 10 and left in 1934 with his school certificate having won prizes for drawing and Architectural drawing. His father was Frederick Mountney of Long Eaton, a Teacher of Music and his mother was Mary Mountney. The younger of two brothers at the school, he left to enter Nottingham School of Art and afterwards spent a year with an Architect in Derby before joining the RAF in 1939.
