Ft Sergeant Gordon Percy Carver Smith 7th Sqn RAFVR. (ON 25-32) Killed 9 April 1941 age 27. Shot down on a mission to bomb Berlin. Crashed SW of Lingen in Lower Saxony. No survivors. Buried REICHSWALD FOREST WAR CEMETERY. Son of William Carver Smith, a Grocer, and Beatrice Ellen Smith, of Nottingham. Smith Gordon PC.(25-32). Gordon Smith was admitted to the school age 11. He was the son of WC Smith, 3 Thornecliffe Rise. Grocer and his wife Beatrice.

From The Nottinghamian July 1941:
He left school from the Matriculation Form having for some time been a member of the OTC. He then joined the staff of Messrs. Skinner and Rook, and became Assistant Manager to his father. When war broke out he was called up for service having previously joined the RAFVR. He had made more than 50 flights over enemy territory and had once previously been reported missing but had returned safely after being forced down in a snow storm.
