Sub-Lieut. John Vincent Brooke. HMS Indefatigable RN Fleet Air Arm. (ON37-41) Crashed in heavy fog in Wales on a solo flight to his ship on 20 November 1944 age 19. Buried in Arnold Cemetery. John was in the OTC, 1st XV and Athletics teams.
He was the son of Vincent E. Brooke and Maud Brooke, of Sherwood, Nottingham; husband of Betty Brooke.

From The Nottinghamian December 1944:
Possessing a fine turn of speed, he was a useful wing three-quarter for the School Rugby XV, winning his First XV Colours during the 1940-1 season. He was prominent, too, in Athletics, both as a sprinter and a high jumper. On leaving school he joined the staff of Players' and only a few weeks before his death married Miss Betty Minster of Nottingham.
