Mr John Roger West Esq. Indian Civil Service. (ON 26-36) Died Died of Para-typhoid fever in Dibrygarh, Assam, India in October 1942 age 24. After Jesus College, Cambridge, West was appointed Assistant Commissioner for the Dehra Dun District of the Province of Assam. "There, in addition to administrative duties, he was largely responsible for the organisation of A.R.P. Just before his untimely death he was engaged in refugee work in connection to the flooding of the Brahmaputra ". (Nottinghamian) . Assam was a key location for a huge Allied military camp, preventing the Japanese who had invaded Burma, from progressing further and keeping open supply routes to China. No mention on CWGC or War Memorial.
